Madras G checked cotton fabric - multi

What is madras fabric?

The Madras fabric is a fabric originally produced in the city of Madras - present-day Chennai - in southeastern India. It comes from an artisanal cotton weaving system to which banana fibers were added. It is still widely used in the Caribbean, Guadeloupe and Martinique particularly, where the Madras fabric is an integral part of the Caribbean (Creole) clothing culture.

Too much associated with former colonies at one time, the Madras fabric almost disappeared. Today, many Antillean wear traditional clothes made with Madras fabric.
