Dashwood studio cotton fabric - Blue Merry and bright x 74cm

How to make my advent Calendar?

Materials needed :

  • 1 Panel of Dashwood Studio Advent calendar Fabric (74cm)
  • 110x 65 cm of coordinating back fabric
  • Thread to match
  • 7 or 8 meters of fine ribbon (max 10 mm) or twine for the drawstring

Instructions :

  1. Place the backing fabric on the wrong sides together with the advent panel and pin. Cut out the bags by following the dotted line around each one, cutting the backing fabric at the same time.
  2. Match the back fabric with printed panel selection with the right sides together and pin. Starting at the green dot at the top, leaving 2 inches at the top of the bag, stitch around the 2 sides and bottom of the bag by following the printed outline you can see thought the back of the fabric with a 1/2 inch seam allowance, doing a backstitch at the start and the finish to secure the threads.
  3. Working on one side of the bag at a time, fold and iron 1/2 inch on the 2 inches of the sides where you did not sew the seam. Fold and iron a 1/4 inch hem along the top of the bag. Fold it over another 3/4 inch as if to make a hem and iron (this will create the drawstring channel). Sew close to the bottom edge of the hem. Repeat on the other side of the bag.
  4. Turn the bag the right way out, being careful to push the corners out and press flat.
  5. Cut 2 lengths of ribbon. Attach a large safety pin to the end of one of your ribbons. Thread it thought the drawstring channel on one side of the bag and then back around the ribbon starting on the opposite side of the bag. Leaving approximately 4 inches of the ribbon on either side, tie the ends in a knot and cut off excess.
  6. The top of the bag will close together when you hold the knots on either si deaf the bag and pull. Happy Christmas!
