What is approved for food contact fabrics?

An approved for food contact fabric is a fabric that does not contain any elements that can be dangerous to human health and that could be transferred when it comes into contact with food. The presence of small black dots proves that the fabric is natural and without any treatment. All plain or printed standard cotton fabrics have a chemical bleaching treatment to remove these small stains. This whitening treatment is totally incompatible with a food contact use, that's why the black dots are always present, and will never disappear in the wash.

How to maintain your cotton fabric approved food contact?

  • Use a food-safe detergent or a Marseille soap to wash the fabric. A standard detergent does not comply with food contact use.
  • Wash at first at 30°C and gradually increase the wash temperatures. Always wash your fabric before cutting because it can tighten by about 10%.
